Young Austin Dillon is living up to that paint scheme.
The driver of the new black No. 3 Chevrolet, the one reminiscent of that of the late 7-tiime Cup Series champion Dale Earnhardt, is just 2 races into his NASCAR Camping World East Series career. But things seem to be working out just fine.
He ran 2nd on the track to teammate Peyton Sellers in the season opener at Greenville-Pickens Speedway, and he won the pole before finishing 7th on Sunday at Iowa Speedway in an East/West combination event. In both cases, the technical inspection line has been his greatest asset.
The DQ dropped Davis from the East Series points lead. Now Dillon holds it by 34 over Iowa winner Brian Ickler with 11 races remaining.
“As equal as these motors are, it’s tough to pass without wrecking, and we’re not here to do that,” Dillon said. “(Iowa) was a good finish for us. We had a good points day, learned a few things and brought the car home in good shape.
“I know we have great cars and we’ll win some this year.”

From TB:
Thought about it, but, frankly, the plane ticket was just too expensive. And, of course, I don't charge people for coverage, so I'm a little short on cash right now...
