Chris Thorne wins Bruce Kane Memorial
Thorne beat Steve Reny and Ricky Rolfe across the stripe. Darren Ripley and Adam Chadbourne rounded out the top-5. Rolfe, who sat 2nd in the Oxford Plains Late Model standings entering the night, was tuning up for a run at next week's $10,000-to-win Coastal 200 at the track. The race is named for Bruce Kane, who was killed in racing crash at Wiscasset in the 1990s.
For the 2nd year in a row, Sidney driver Chris Thorne won the 30-lap Bruce Kane Memorial for the Late Models at Wiscasset Raceway.
Thorne, the reigning track champion, was leading at the halfway mark with Reny, Ripley and Rolfe racing 3-wide behind him when his car got severely sideways at the start-finish line. He corrected as the guys behind him checked up and drove on for the win. Maurice Young, a 6-time Wiscasset champion, rebounded from a last-place finish a week ago to win wire-to-wire in the Strictly Stock division. In the Super Street division, Shawn Austin picked up his 1st career win, while Pete McCollett of Readfield won a Mini Stock feature for the 1st time since 2005. Jason Giggey was the victor in the Mini Trucks. Wiscasset returns to action with the 2nd half of a doubleheader weekend on Sunday. The PASS North Series will run the Ray Haskell Ford 125, with qualifying beginning at 2 p.m.
