Andy Santerre will be back in a race car for the first time since he hung up his NASCAR Camping World East Series helmet in 2005.
Santerre has entered the 8th annual Peterbilt 250 at Speedway 660, the track formerly known as New Brunswick International Speedway, in Geary, New Brunswick. The race is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 31.
Santerre is a 4-time CWES champion who fields a current entry in that series for Peyton Sellers.
For the past few years, my good friend Kirk Thibeau (of Fort Fairfield) has been racing these Pro Stock cars up there in Fredericton, and for the past few years he's been telling me I need to go up there and race with them," said Santerre, who has a vacation home in St. Agatha, Maine, where he spends time each winter snowmobiling. "In the past it had never worked out that I could be there. This year we happen to have that weekend off, and I needed a good excuse to get away, and there's no better place than my place up in Aroostook County, Maine, which is not too far from the track."
Thibeau is teaming with Graham Racing out of Centreville, New Brunswick, to prepare the car for Santerre to drive.
Santerre was to have entered a Late Model race at Wiscasset Raceway in 2006 for then-owner Dave St. Clair, but inclement weather forced the postponement of the event and Santerre could not reschedule.
Johnny Clark of Hallowell, Maine, won last year's Peterbilt 250. Scott Chubbuck is another former winner of the event.
