ON SITE: Ricky Rolfe, Kevin Harvick share pointers

Harvick rolfe Like in that movie "The Shawshank Redemption." he's the guy you see when you want to get things done.

Kevin Harvick figured that out early on this week.

On his way out of the track after completing all of the practice he wanted to complete, Ricky Rolfe was stopped by Harvick for a final time. The two drivers talked for several minutes, before smiling and shaking hands.

"We're just talking about setups and what to expect tomorrow, both in the heat races and in the feature," Rolfe said. "We've been talking back and forth all day. I'd come down here (to Harvick's pit), and he'd come down and see me. They had heard who to go see. They'd been asking who to go see, and now I guess I'm the guy."

Rolfe has been "The Guy" at Oxford this season, with 5 wins in his last 6 starts in weekly competition.

On Saturday morning, Rolfe slapped new tires on his No. 51 and was rumored to be running in the 15.7-second bracket. That's 3-tenths of a second faster than fellow Late Model driver Travis Adams would admit to turning the .375-mile track in.

"We wanted to go out in the first practice and prove a point, and we did from what I'm hearing," Rolfe said. "I just wanted everybody to see that we are fast, that's all. It's (head games) pretty much. Whenever somebody goes out and beats you, then you've got to start working a little bit harder. Maybe some of these guys will go and tune themselves right out of it -- that's what we hope, anyway."

Harvick was one that appeared to be getting better and better, though. Rolfe said the 2007 Daytona 500 winner, who sits 9th in the current NASCAR Sprint Cup standings, was working on running the bottom groove -- even though the 2 had talked about the success to be found on the outside at Oxford.

"Kevin's been trying to get it to twitch up off the corner, so he can drive up off the corner under people," Rolfe said. "It makes a lot of sense, especially in the heat races. The track gets slick and guys are moving up a lot, so if you can do that, you'll be good."

Rolfe should know.
