Austin Dillon will move to the NASCAR Nationwide Series this season.
Dillon’s grandfather, Richard Childress, said during ESPN’s rain delay coverage of Sprint Cup Series practice at Pocono Raceway on Saturday morning that Dillon would likely be in a Nationwide ride at Richmond International Raceway next month.
Dillon, an 18-year-old rookie, is currently 3rd in the Camping World East Series standings.
Dillon is expected to make his Nationwide debut on Sept. 5, in the Emerson Radio 250 at Richmond. The CWES is off that weekend and returns to action at New Hampshire Motor Speedway the following weekend.
Childress, who fields 3 Cup teams and won numerous championships with late driver Dale Earnhardt Sr., also said that Dillon’s younger brother, Ty Dillon, would make a Camping World Series debut sometime this season.
Austin Dillon led the CWES standings for most of the season, until he was disqualified at Adirondack International Speedway last weekend, dropping him from a 3rd-place finish to dead last. That cost him the CWES lead.
He now trails both Matt Kobyluck and fellow rookie Trevor Bayne.
