Joey Logano will drive No. 20 full-time in Sprint Cup Series in 2009
New England native Joey Logano will drive the No. 20 Home Depot-sponsored Toyotas in the Sprint Cup Series next season. The 18-year-old former NASCAR Camping World East Series champion, a part-time Nationwide Series driver for Joe Gibbs Racing, will become the full-time pilot of the No. 20 beginning next season.
Logano will make his highly-anticipated Cup debut in the Chevy Rock ‘n Roll 400 at Richmond International Raceway on Sept. 6.
"It’s a dream come true," Logano said.
Logano, who won at Kentucky in June, became the youngest driver ever to win a Nationwide Series race – just 21 days past his 18th birthday.
JGR president J.D. Gibbs said he didn’t think youth or inexperience would hamper Logano.
"We’d be disappointed if we didn’t come out of the box just as strong (as with Denny Hamlin and Tony Stewart) as we did with them," Gibbs said.
Logano, who swept the Camping World East Series events at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in 2007, is expected to attempt to qualify for the Cup Series' Sylvania 300 at the track on Sept. 14.
