Rain delays, a self-imposed curfew and two faulty restarts couldn’t slow Darren Ripley.
The Appleton racer won for the first time in 7 starts at Wiscasset Raceway this year, taking the 30-lap Late Model feature – a race which ended well after midnight following a long race program that was slowed from the outset by a lengthy rain delay.
Chris Thorne of Sidney, the division point leader, wasn’t happy to have finished second after he and Ripley made contact in the closing laps.
"I should have brought home a win tonight, but I just ran out of real estate," Thorne said. "I think that was pretty obvious."
Ripley was twice reprimanded for jumping lap 16 restarts, but he was able to right himself for the third one and win.
"I had to do whatever I could to hold (Thorne) off," Ripley said. "That Thorne boy is fast."
Mike Orr, a former track champion, finished third.
