Jeffrey Earnhardt out of DEI car for second straight week
Apparently, it takes an Earnhardt to pull an Earnhardt out of a race car.
Multiple sources in the NASCAR Camping World East Series garage confirmed this week that Jeffrey Earnhardt will miss his second straight series event to close out the season. Earnhardt will not be in the DEI-owned No. 8 Chevrolet that had been his for most of the year when the schedule concludes this weekend at Stafford Motor Speedway.
Earnhardt is expected to be replaced by Martin Truex Jr.’s younger brother, Ryan Truex, for the season finale.
Earnhardt missed last week’s Sunoco 150 at Dover International Speedway when he was replaced by part-time Sprint Cup driver Aric Almirola. Almirola won that race.
Though Earnhardt’s performance in two years in the Camping World East Series hasn’t exactly been exhilarating – he has just one finish of better than fourth this season and hasn’t finished better than 10th in any of his last three races – word is that it’s not the results that had him taken out of the seat.
His father, Kerry Earnhardt, is rumored to have pulled the plug on Jeffrey’s efforts, after several admonishments from DEI for lack of participation at the shop between races from the 19-year-old driver and grandson of the late Dale Earnhardt.
