Matt Kobyluck locks up 2008 Camping World East Series championship
Matt Kobyluck completed a career-long mission on Friday afternoon, finishing third in the Sunoco 150 at Dover International Speedway to clinch his first NASCAR Camping World East Series championship.
Visiting part-time Sprint Cup Series driver Aric Almirola, taking the seat usually occupied by Jeffrey Earnhardt in the Dale Earnhardt Inc. stable, won in his first career East Series start.
Kobyluck, of Uncasville, Conn., has a 224-point lead over rookie Austin Dillon going into the East Series finale at Stafford Motor Speedway next week.
In his 10th full season in the Camping World East Series, Kobyluck has a series-high four wins to go with 9 top-5 finishes and 11 top-10s in 12 starts.
His best previous championship finish was second to Andy Santerre in 2002. Last year, Kobyluck slipped to fourth, despite entering the second-to-last event at New Hampshire Motor Speedway with a mathematical shot at the title.
