Modified champions Mike McLaughlin, Todd Szegedy to be honored at New Hampshire
Past meets present when the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour visits New Hampshire Motor Speedway this week.
As part of its 60th anniversary celebration, the Tour will continue to honor its past series champions when it recognizes both Mike McLaughlin and Todd Szegedy on Saturday.
McLaughlin was the 1988 Modified Tour champion; Szegedy was the 2003 champ.
"I think it’s awesome that they are honoring all of the past champions," said McLaughlin, now an employee at Joe Gibbs Racing, both as a test driver and in its development program. "I’m definitely looking forward to going back. Loudon was like Daytona to us, it was the highlight of the year to race there. Looking back on it, it was definitely my favorite race track."
McLaughlin’s accomplishments at NHMS certainly bear that out. He has six wins in three different divisions at the facility, and he won the inaugural events there for both the Modified Tour and what was then called the Busch North Series in 1990.
Szegedy is the defending champion of the fall New Hampshire 100 at NHMS. He sits sixth in the current series standings through 11 races.
