ON SITE: Santos tops Santos in 900th NEMA midget race
The 900th race in NEMA history went to one of the division’s brightest young stars.
Bobby Santos III of Franklin, Mass., passed his sister midway through the 25-lap midget feature and drove off to the win on Saturday at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway.
Santos held off Joey Payne and Jeff Abold, who finished second and third, respectively.
"I knew I had a good car," Santos said. "But it was a real strong, competitive field. It was just a lot of fun."
Adam Cantor and Erica Santos rounded out the top-5.
The Santos siblings ran side-by-side for a couple of laps before Erica was forced to yield.
"It was fun racing my sister," Bobby Santos said. "Her car just went a little too tight on her at the end. But she was fast, and she was running me as hard as she could."
"She’s an awesome race car driver. She’s as good as any of the boys out here."
