Maybe Cassius Clark will get that haircut after all.
Despite wrecking into the turn one wall at Greenville-Pickens Speedway on Saturday night during the Howler 150, Clark won the inaugural PASS National Championship series.
Clark’s best finishes of second, fourth and sixth in the four-race series earned him the title over John Stancill of Ayden, N.C.
"It’s pretty neat to do that," said Clark, of Farmington, Maine. "All the races in the series were big races. I’m not big on championships – I’d rather win the races – but the fact that it was the first one is cool."
Clark has let his hair grow all season, saying he needed to win a race before he’d cut it. He said he’d "flip a coin" to decide if a national title was worth a haircut.
Apparently, there was a comical moment following the Holwer 150 – as Stancill performed burnouts on the track, celebrating what he thought was a national title after finishing in the top-10. But Stancill seemed unaware that only a driver’s best three finishes counted toward the championship.
"A lot of the good guys ran the series, at least most of the races they did, " Clark said. "I hope they keep the (national series) going."
Alex Haase won the event on Saturday.
