Johnny Clark’s favorite track produced his third PASS North Series championship.
Clark finished fifth in the Ray Haskell Ford 150 at Wiscasset Raceway on Saturday – an event won by Adam Bates of Warner, N.H. – to beat out championship hopefuls Ben Rowe and Travis Benjamin and take the 2008 series title by 10 points over Rowe.
Rowe finished 10th after nearly wrecking on the frontstretch with 26 laps remaining.
Behind Bates, Cassius Clark and Benjamin finished second and third, respectively, in the final race of the PASS North season.
"Thing’s been awesome since we unloaded," Bates said. "It was just unbelievable. The crew did an awesome job setting this thing up. It was on a rail. I couldn’t feel better, especially to top this year off with a win."
Johnny Clark’s car wasn’t as dominant as it had been earlier this season at Wiscasset – winning once in May and taking the lucrative New England Toyota Tundra 250 in August. But it was good enough to win the championship, his first since 2006.
"(Rowe) came over and told me after the win at Beech Ridge, that it just won you a championship – because we’re going to Wiscasset," Clark said. "I wasn’t points chasing, because I had to beat Benji. ... It was just a funny race. You saw people go in and out all the time.
"I’ve never been so happy to finish fifth at my home track."
