Another race, another milestone for Maurice Young.
Young led every lap of the 20-lap Strictly Street feature at Wiscasset Raceway on Sunday, extending his dominant points lead over the division and simultaneously posting the 60th win of his career at the facility.
Young needs only start next week’s final event of the season to claim his track-record seventh career championship.
Ed Pierpoint. Young’s closest pursuer, was second and Chuck Colby was third. Young owns a 72-point lead over Pierpont. Heat winners are awarded 10 points, and feature winners are awarded 100 points – with totals dropping two points for each position.
There has yet to be a 30-car field in the Strictly division at any point this season, making it a virtual impossibility that Pierpont could catch Young. Not only would Pierpont have to win his heat while Young finished sixth or worse, but he’d also need 32 cars to start next Sunday’s feature – and then he’d have to win the race while Young finished last.
IN THE MINI TRUCK division, Kevin Oliver of Gray collected his first career victory. Chris Doucette was second, and Jason Giggey was third.
