As good as Maurice Young is in the weekly wars at Wiscasset Raceway, he’s been even better in special events held there.
Young dominated his fourth consecutive extra-distance race at the track, leading 80 laps en route to the win in the $3,000 Strictly Street Nationals on Sunday. Young swept two 75-lap events for the division in 2007, and he also won a 75-lap qualifier for this event earlier this season.
"I’m just fortunate to be the one to win it," Young said.
Young, of Windsor, now has 11 wins this season at Wiscasset.
Mike Short of Auburn finished second to Young, while popular veteran Lyman McKeage finished third.
"I’m telling you boy, he’s awful hard (to beat)," Short said of Young. "I’d like to congratulate Mr. Young. First the car was good, then it would be bad, then it would be good, then it would be bad again. But hey, that’s just racing."
The race was slowed 11 times by caution and took more than an hour and 45 minutes to complete.
Young, a six-time champion at Wiscasset, holds a 60-point lead over Ed Pierpont in the Strictly Street standings this season with two races remaining.
During PASS 300 weekend at Beech Ridge, Young wrecked the car in a Wildcat feature event and spent lots of time making repairs since that event.
"I beat her up pretty good (two weeks ago at Beech Ridge)," Young said. "Myself, Alton Sinclair, Jeremy Darveau, my girlfriend – we worked awfully hard to get this thing going good again. Having the race go into night, that just worked into our favor."
