Tony Pedregon says NHRA needs to look more closely at facilities
46-year-old 2-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Scott Kalitta was killed during a qualifying crash at Englishtown, N.J., on Saturday when his car exploded just before the finish line and then coasted at nearly 300 mph into a wall at the end of the strip's run-off area. A second, far more spectacular explosion ensued. Pedregon suggested to ESPN reporter Gary Gerould that the Old Bridge Township Raceway Park facility itself may have played a role in Kalitta's death. Kalitta was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. Like the Funny Car world did with John Force's horrific crash at Texas last season, reigning NHRA Funny Car world champion Tony Pedregon is hoping that once again something good will come out of a horrible tragedy.
